Boston College will honor former hockey players Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau and Tony Voce with uniform patches, a sign on the boards in front of the team bench and other tributes this season. All three died this summer: The Gaudreau brothers were hit by a car while bicycling in New Jersey the day before their sister’s wedding.

The Boston College Eagles men’s hockey team has announced its plans to honor Tony Voce and Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau ahead of the team’s home opener on Friday night. Prior to the national anthem, Boston College will show a tribute video and hold a moment of silence.

Meredith Gaudreau, widow of late Calgary Flames player Johnny Gaudreau, shared an emotional reaction to a recent tribute by Boston College Hockey.

The impact Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau had on Boston College, both on the ice and around campus, was enormous and far-reaching. Before Friday’s home opener, the Eagles honoured the brothers and Tony Voce in front of an emotional crowd.

The No. 2 Boston College men’s hockey team (3-0) defeated AIC (0-3-1) 5-0 on Friday night at Conte Forum. The contest marked firsts for a few Eagles. Forward James Hagens and defenseman Will Skahan each scored their first collegiate goal while defenseman Aram Minnetian scored his first goal of the season.
